Architectural vessel, ‘simplifying’ points of view
Artist Creative Process
My work in steel, came out of my work in ceramics, which focuses on simple geometries, planes in space cut on angles and intersected with each other to create scalable forms.
This work involved a very challenging process. I used 3d modelling, exacting measurement testing, and then cut and welded steel ( with a little help from friends). It is the first piece of this size I have attempted, and the Festival has been the catalyst for me taking this huge creative leap.
This simple composition has been counter positioned against the complexity of the backdrop of the Brunswick River.
The process of creating this piece was to take the language of a small clay piece I had made, and translate it to a scale that would match the human eye. I then add a strong linear element - foraged Palm Park foliage to reference the beauty and simplicity of ikebana - Japanese flower arranging.
