Ellen has been exploring composition, detail, form and function, through jewellery, fibre arts, ceramics, and sculpture; now developing a particular interest in public art and installation’s ability to challenge conceptions of space and encourage contemplation.
Artwork Description
Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by materials and surfaces which are visibly aged, worn and deteriorating. Layers of peeling paint on walls, old timber fence posts, worn sandstone steps. In them is a palpable sense of history and narratives of transformation through time.
Rust captivates my imagination. Whenever I see a rusty bottle cap in the street I pocket it. Mundane and disposable in isolation, they take on a surprisingly regal appearance when exhibited en masse.
